About William

William Sherr, Founder of OutBaby, may not be the first gay stay-at-home dad but he’s certainly one of the most experienced. The father to three children, two from private adoptions and one foster-to-adopt, he and his partner of twelve years, pediatric emergency physician Estevan Garcia have been actively involved in the expanding world of same-sex family planning for many years and across multiple states as foster dads to twenty children. It’s through his experience as an adoptive parent and as a foster parent that William has developed a thorough understanding of the delicate processes of having a child through adoption, fostering or surrogacy; he knows the systems.

As a father of three children in Brooklyn, New York, William balances his home life as father and husband with his professional life running OutBaby, while maintaining a social life and continuing his philanthropic service.

Prior to founding OutBaby William co-founded the Rainbow Families of Puget Sound in Seattle, WA and Brooklyn Rainbows. He also serves as a National Board Member for the Family Equality Council. His early childhood education degree and tenure as a kindergarten teacher add to his breadth of knowledge of children and new parents while his participation in the gay community further deepens his understanding of the needs of same-sex parents and families.
